SHAP WANDERERS F.C.   Founded 1921 · Last completed match: Saturday (at long last)
MATCH REPORT: SHAP WANDERERS 0–7 ORTON ROVERS (COMPLETED!)
By our Sports Desk (reporting from an actual pitch)

For the first time since 1987, a Shap Wanderers fixture reached full time. With the wind uncharacteristically dropping to a dead calm, Saturday's derby against Orton Rovers ran the full ninety minutes, ending a run of 412 consecutive postponements the club had long described as "a proud tradition."

The 0–7 scoreline was, everyone agreed, beside the point. "Ninety minutes. All of them," said an emotional manager Geoff Strickland, 58. "We conceded seven, but by 'eck we finished." Several players carried on for a further ten minutes after the final whistle, never having heard one before.

OTHER SHAP SPORTS
⚽ FELL RUNNING
Popular, as it's the only way to get anywhere when the bus is cancelled. Tuesday's run was won by the wind, by a distance.
🎯 DARTS (INDOOR, THANK GOD)
The only sport with a perfect attendance record. Held nightly at The Greyhound. Reigning champion: Derek. It's always Derek.
🎣 SHEEP WATCHING
Technically not a sport, but there's a league table and Brian takes it very seriously. Current leader: a sheep.
🤸 KITE FLYING
Banned. Three were lost last spring, along with the child holding one. (He's fine. He's in Carlisle.)

NEXT FIXTURE: Shap Wanderers vs. Anyone, Saturday, 3pm (postponed — wind's back Thursday)
